The template file in word, a.k.a.

Normal.dot, a.k.a.

AutoText, and overall template within Word.

However, before implementing the fix, check other programs to see if they open or not.

If they also do not open, you probably have a virus infection and need to have a virus specialist remove it.

If this doesnt work, you should contact a Microsoft Word specialist.

This does not happen on the other machine (which has the exact same setup).

I just dont know where the problem is Your help would be greatly appreciated.

It is not an Outlook issue, and not a network issue as alluded to in microsoft support.

Ive the behavior before and multiple instances of WINWORD.EXE in processes has been the culprit.

I was trying to change the Word Preferences (under my standard account) to no avail.

Doing so, did not re-create normal.dot as Id expected so I restored the trashed file.

Now, upon startup, I get a Word cannot open existing global template msg which doesnt stop me from continuing.

We apologize. will attempt to recover and the option to do so - neither option seems to do anything but quit or restart.

I s there anything you can tell me that could get me out of this, short of an uninstallre-install.

But Isnt deleting normal.dot and restarting Word supposed to get you a new normal.
